In a test game held early this morning, the Super Falcons achieved a resounding victory over Australian side Queensland Lions FC with a scoreline of 8-1. Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala contributed two goals to the Super Falcons’ triumph. The other goals were scored by Ifeoma Onumonu, Toni Payne, Halimat Ayinde, Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu, and Gift Monday. The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, will now proceed to their official camp base at Sofitel Hotels in Brisbane on Sunday.
Their next challenge will be at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where they will face Olympic champions Canada on Friday, July 21. Australia and the Republic of Ireland are the other teams in their group. This tournament marks the Super Falcons’ 10th appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The competition will be co-hosted by Australia and Canada and is scheduled to run from July 21 to August 21.
