The Supreme Court has rejected a plea by Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, seeking a certificate of return as the lawful governor of the state. Ihedioha argued that Governor Hope Uzodinma was not qualified to run for the election, contending that Uche Nwosu was initially declared by the court as the rightful candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Tijjani Abubakar delivered the verdict on Tuesday, dismissing the motion for lack of merit and deeming it needless and vexatious. The Supreme Court upheld Governor Hope Uzodinma’s status as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
In addition to dismissing the plea, the Supreme Court awarded costs of N40 million against Mike Ozekhome, the legal representative bringing the matter before the court. The ruling signifies a definitive resolution to the legal challenge and reinforces Uzodinma’s legitimacy as the governor of Imo State.
