During the Senate screening of nominees for appointment as justices of the Supreme Court, Jummai Sankey, the presiding justice of the Court of Appeal, Owerri division, made a lighthearted comment, referring to the three senators from Kaduna State as her “husbands.”
Expressing concern about the absence of a lawmaker from her state of origin, Plateau, among the committee members, Justice Sankey found solace in the presence of a senator from Kaduna in the team. She playfully remarked, “I come from Plateau State. I have noticed that I don’t have any representative backing me here. But, my state by marriage is Kaduna State.”
Justice Sankey then went on to mention that her husband is from Kaduna State, and therefore, she considers the Kaduna lawmakers as her husbands. The light-hearted remark added a moment of humor to the serious proceedings of the Senate screening.
