The Supreme Court of Nigeria has issued a ruling on Wednesday, stating that old Naira notes will continue to be accepted as legal tender in the country until further notice. This decision comes after the apex court had previously extended the deadline for the phasing out of old Naira notes to December 31, 2023, in March 2023.
The federal government, seeking an extension for the use of old Naira notes, filed for an extension on November 21, 2023. In its recent ruling, the Supreme Court in Abuja affirmed that the old Naira notes will maintain their status as legal tender, allowing them to be utilized in transactions until any future directives are issued.
