An undisclosed number of suspected terrorists, their wives, and informants were apprehended by security agents upon their return from the Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia. The arrests took place at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto, as the alleged terrorists returned from the pilgrimage along with other pilgrims from Zamfara State.
Sources have confirmed the story, though spokespersons of security agencies in Zamfara State have not provided official statements regarding the arrests. According to a member of the Zamfara State Hajj committee, security agencies communicated with the committee and conducted the operation at the airport.
The suspected terrorists, their wives, and informants were asked to sit in a hall at the airport, where they underwent screening and questioning by security agents. Some sources suggest that the surveillance and arrests extended to intending pilgrims from other states like Katsina and Sokoto.
