The suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa Ari, has reportedly evaded arraignment for the second time. According to SaharaReporters, Ari, who is facing trial, has gone into hiding.
The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), CSP Moses Jolugbo, informed the Adamawa State High Court that the suspended REC is currently in Niger Republic. The trial judge, Justice Benjamin Manji, had previously directed the Nigerian police to produce Ari on or before the adjourned date of November 23.
During the recent court session, counsel to INEC, Rotimi Jacobs, requested the court to issue a warrant of arrest against Yunusa Ari. However, a lawyer, Usman M. SAN, announced appearance on behalf of Ari, stating that the suspended REC is not in the country but in Niger Republic.
Justice Manji instructed the counsel to produce Yunusa Ari within two weeks and adjourned the case accordingly. Elisha Abbo, who was recently removed as Adamawa senator by the Court of Appeal, had reportedly signed the police bail bond for the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner.
