The Department of State Services (DSS) has fulfilled the one-week ultimatum given by a Federal High Court in Abuja to either charge or release the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. The DSS has charged Emefiele to court, as confirmed by DSS Spokesman Peter Afunanya.
Emefiele, who had previously obtained a restraining order against the DSS, was arrested and is currently facing prosecution for suspected fresh criminal infractions. The DSS had initially applied for a court order to detain Emefiele in 2022 as part of a criminal investigation. Although he obtained a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the DSS arrested him in June 2023 based on new suspected criminal information.
The DSS assures the public of professionalism, justice, and fairness in handling Emefiele’s case.
