Tension Builds as Plateau PDP Gears Up for Crucial Congress Tomorrow

All eyes are on Plateau State as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) prepares to hold its elective congress on Saturday, October 25, 2025, a decisive event expected to shape the future of the opposition party in the state.

The congress, scheduled to begin by 10:00 a.m. at the WAYE Foundation, Doi-Du, Jos South Local Government Area, will see the emergence of new party executives to steer the PDP’s affairs ahead of the next election cycle.

According to a statement signed by Joyce Lohya Ramnap, Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Chairperson of the PDP Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, the exercise will bring together delegates from the 17 local government areas alongside key stakeholders and loyal party members.

Ramnap said the congress aims to strengthen internal structures, rebuild confidence among party members, and consolidate unity following the internal divisions that weakened the party before the 2023 general elections.

“The Plateau State Chapter of the PDP has completed all arrangements for the congress. This event will reaffirm our collective commitment to deepening democracy and promoting good governance,” she stated.

The commissioner commended members across the state for their loyalty and peaceful conduct, noting that the congress presents an opportunity to rebuild a stronger, people-focused PDP capable of restoring the party’s dominance in Plateau politics.

Political observers say the exercise is a crucial test for the party’s leadership after the All Progressives Congress (APC) exploited PDP’s internal crises in 2023, leading to the loss of key legislative seats through court rulings.

Party leaders have appealed to delegates and observers to conduct themselves peacefully and adhere to laid-down party guidelines throughout the process.

“Our goal is to restore hope, deepen democracy, and deliver the true dividends of governance to our people,” the statement concluded.

The Plateau PDP’s elective congress is widely viewed as a make-or-break moment for the party as it seeks to regain lost ground and rebuild trust ahead of future elections.
