In the agrarian Oro Ago community in the Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, three suspected kidnappers were reportedly killed by a thunderstorm over the weekend. According to reports, the victims were believed to be part of an eight-man kidnap gang that operated in the Isin local government area of the state.
The Nigeria Police Force’s Kwara State command has launched an investigation into the incident after a viral video surfaced, showing the decomposing bodies of the suspected criminals in a bush. The bodies were burnt beyond recognition, with flies swarming the scene.
Voices heard in the video clip claimed to be members of the vigilance team in Igbomina Kwara and celebrated the success of their efforts against criminal activities in the area. They attributed the deaths to a thunderstrike, expressing gratitude to God for their victory over the evildoers.
Another video clip obtained by the publication featured Fulani herders, believed to be relatives of the deceased, lamenting their loss in a bush. They regarded the thunderstrike as an act of God that should not be questioned or attributed to human interference.
The state commissioner of Police, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, confirmed the incident and stated that the command had initiated an investigation. The police will diligently examine the veracity of the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Further details and updates on the investigation are expected to be provided by the Nigeria Police Force as they unfold.
