President Bola Tinubu has reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering determination to utilize available resources to establish peace in the South-East geopolitical zone of the country. Tinubu made this declaration on Friday during the unveiling of the Peace in South-East Project (PISE-P) and the Thanksgiving Service/Homecoming ceremony organized in honor of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu.
The well-attended event, held at the Sports Arena of Bende Local Government Area, marked the commencement of the PISE-P, a five-year initiative by the deputy speaker aimed at addressing complex socio-economic challenges and security threats prevalent in the South-East.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the significance of the South-East as an industrial hub crucial to the nation’s economic development. Expressing concern over extensive economic devastation caused by non-state actors, Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would not permit the actions of economic saboteurs masquerading as advocates of Ndigbo to persist in the region.
“We know that the South-East has weathered too many storms but the current economic stagnation has shaken the foundation of the region. We are not going to sit back and watch the fire go beyond what we can handle. We are here to extinguish the fire permanently,” stated the President.
The PISE-P initiative, spearheaded by Chief Benjamin Kalu, is poised to address and overcome the multifaceted challenges faced by the South-East, with a focused commitment to restoring peace, stability, and fostering economic growth in the region.
