Prominent Nigerian figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, are expected to attend the commemoration of the 2023 International Youth Day on August 14th at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja. The event will also feature the public presentation of a book titled “YOUTH RISING”: Harnessing the Potentials and Aspirations of Nigerian Youth Towards a Greater Nation.
The book, authored by Ben Duntoye, a former President of the Pan African Youth Youth and Executive Director of the African Youth Resource Centre, is dedicated to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Duntoye, who has more than twenty-five years of experience in various youth leadership roles, explained that the book was inspired by his extensive work in the field and aims to highlight the potential and aspirations of Nigerian youth for national development.
Duntoye further noted that President Tinubu’s significant contributions to democratic development in Nigeria and his role in inspiring leadership excellence among young people were key reasons for dedicating the book to him.
The event will be chaired by Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. Other dignitaries expected to attend include governors, members of the Nigerian National Assembly, and heads of various government agencies.
Engineer TEIN JACK-RICH, a well-known philanthropist and former presidential aspirant, will serve as the guest speaker at the event.
The theme of the 2023 International Youth Day is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.” The commemoration is a collaborative effort involving the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, as well as major youth and student organizations such as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP), and Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC).
The occasion aims to highlight the importance of empowering and engaging youth in sustainable development efforts, particularly in the context of environmental conservation and a more eco-friendly world. The book presentation and International Youth Day celebration underscore the commitment of Nigeria’s leaders and stakeholders to promoting youth development, leadership, and a better future for the country.
