In a significant move aligning with the powers vested in him by section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This appointment, pending Senate confirmation, is for a renewable term of four years.
Mr. Olukoyede, a seasoned lawyer with over twenty-two years of experience in regulatory compliance and fraud management, previously served as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Commission. His extensive background within the EFCC positions him well to take on the responsibilities of the Chairman role. The appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Additionally, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC. Mr. Hammajoda, a public administrator with a wealth of experience in public finance management, is set to serve a renewable term of five years, subject to Senate confirmation. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri.
President Tinubu, through Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), urges the newly appointed leaders of the EFCC to uphold the confidence placed in them. This appointment aligns with President Tinubu’s overarching agenda for a renewed fight against corruption, emphasizing a reformed institutional architecture within the anti-corruption sector.
The stage is set for Mr. Ola Olukoyede and Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda to spearhead a revitalized anti-corruption campaign, reflecting the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
