Tinubu’s Vision Takes Shape as GEIL Unveils Landmark Otakikpo Oil Terminal in Ogoni Region

In a major step toward addressing long-standing grievances in the Niger Delta, Green Energy International Limited (GEIL) has completed the Otakikpo crude oil terminal — a flagship infrastructure project that aligns closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The newly completed terminal, situated near the Ogoni and Opobo oil fields, marks a historic achievement as the first privately developed crude oil terminal by an African operator. These fields have remained dormant for over 30 years due to political, environmental, and logistical setbacks.

Boasting a storage capacity of 750,000 barrels — expandable to 3 million — and a pumping capacity of 360,000 barrels per day, the Otakikpo terminal provides a secure and efficient evacuation route for stranded reserves in the Ogoni and Opobo regions. With this development, Nigeria moves closer to unlocking over 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) in reserves that have been inaccessible for decades.

This milestone underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to regional development and energy security. His administration has consistently pledged to deliver sustainable solutions to neglected oil-producing communities, and the Otakikpo terminal is now a tangible example of that promise in action.

Beyond resolving logistical bottlenecks, the terminal is equipped to handle up to 250,000 barrels per day of third-party crude injection — opening new opportunities for indigenous producers, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy.

Speaking on the development, GEIL Chairman and CEO, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, highlighted the project’s strategic impact:

“The Otakikpo terminal is just 6 to 13 kilometers away from the Opobo and Ogoni fields, which have remained shut in for more than three decades. These fields are over 60 kilometers from the nearest export infrastructure. With this terminal and our innovative multiphase fluid flow technology, we can deliver up to 200,000 barrels of oil per day and tap into 3 billion barrels of reserves within 12 months of project sanction.”

He added that GEIL’s efforts are in full alignment with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, providing a platform for development, resource optimization, and community engagement.

As Nigeria prepares for its first crude exports from the terminal, industry stakeholders are praising the project as a turning point in the country’s oil and gas logistics strategy — proving that local innovation and investment can be the key to solving deeply rooted issues like the Ogoni crisis.

With the Otakikpo terminal now operational, the path is clearer for a more inclusive, productive, and prosperous future for oil-rich communities that have long been left behind.
