Popular Nollywood actress and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deputy governorship candidate for Rivers State in the 2023 election, Tonto Dikeh, stated on Saturday that she would not give up on her political aspirations until she achieved her goal. Speaking at the GOTNI National Leadership Conference in Abuja, themed “Leadership for sustainability,” she acknowledged the challenges of politics and the slim chances of fair play in the system.
Dikeh emphasized the importance of leadership, particularly for Nigerian youths who strive for a better country and improved lives. Reflecting on her experience as a candidate, she highlighted the resilience and determination required to navigate the political landscape. While acknowledging the perception of older politicians regarding her candidacy, she asserted her seriousness and commitment to making a difference.
The actress also addressed the lack of leadership and structure during the #EndSARS protests, pointing out that without effective leadership, progress becomes difficult. Dikeh emphasized the need for the youth to attain positions of power and leadership, noting that the older generation often underestimates their potential. She urged Nigerian youths to equip themselves with the necessary skills and capabilities to effectively lead and bring about positive change.
The CEO of GOTNI Leadership Centre, which organized the conference, highlighted the importance of leadership development for individuals in positions of power. He emphasized the deficit of leadership training among Nigerian leaders and stressed the need for sustainable leadership capital. The conference aimed to enhance leadership capacities, establish networks, and maximize the potential of existing networks to benefit institutions and the nation as a whole.
Over the years, GOTNI has consistently organized leadership conferences and programs to enlighten Nigerians about the significance of leadership development and the role it plays in driving organizations and the country forward. The conference featured engaging conversations and panel discussions, reinforcing the importance of leadership development for both organizational and national leaders.
