In a harrowing incident, a 19-year-old, Isaac Odunayo, has been remanded in Kwara State Magistrate Court in Ilorin for the alleged rape and subsequent death of a 17-year-old girl.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), Odunayo is accused of luring the victim into a hotel, where he forcefully engaged in sexual activities with her until her untimely demise.
The prosecutor, Abdullah Sanni, informed the court that the suspect attempted to flee the scene 45 minutes after their arrival at the hotel. However, the hotel’s manager apprehended him, insisting on payment for the lodging. Subsequently, the manager accompanied Odunayo to the room, discovering the girl lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood.
During police interrogation, Odunayo reportedly confessed to having sexual intercourse with the girl, leading to her fatal bleeding. Additionally, he disclosed that he is involved in internet fraud.
Considering the gravity of the allegations, Magistrate Mohammad Dasuki, presiding over the case, ordered the remand of the suspect in prison. The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 12, 2023. This tragic incident adds to the growing concerns surrounding cases of sexual assault and violence against women in the country.
