In a heartbreaking incident, a 22-year-old student of Sheikh Kamaldeen Arabic School in Ilorin, Kwara State, identified as Alfa Musa, has taken his own life. His lifeless body was discovered hanging in his room at Dagbenu compound in the Ogidi area of Ilorin on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, confirmed the tragic incident and revealed that an investigation has been initiated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the suicide.
According to the police, the deceased left a poignant suicide note addressed to his parents. The note expressed remorse and cited the belief that God did not answer his prayers as a motivating factor for taking such a drastic step.
“To my mum and dad, I am sorry, I did this because God did not answer my prayers, I will rather die than commit sin, please, forgive me, I love you, bury me at home,” the heart-wrenching note read.
The discovery of Alfa Musa’s lifeless body was made when a friend visited his residence on the fateful day and found his room locked. After numerous attempts to elicit a response, the friend, along with others, forced the door open and were met with the tragic sight of the young student hanging from a makeshift noose. An empty paint container, believed to have been used in the act, was also found in the room.
Neighbors described Alfa Musa, who hailed from Osun State, as a devout Muslim, adding to the shock and sadness surrounding the untimely death of the young student.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, one of Alfa Musa’s colleagues shared a video from the funeral prayer, highlighting the somber atmosphere as friends and family bid farewell to the young soul who succumbed to the depths of despair.
