The family of Taiwo Owoeye, a former ophthalmic nurse at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), is mourning her tragic death in Suffolk, United Kingdom, allegedly at the hands of her husband, David Abodunde.
Taiwo was reportedly strangled to death on Tuesday, November 28, in her home. The incident followed a reported case of assault against her husband, which she had brought to the attention of the police on Monday, November 27.
Upon visiting the couple’s apartment the next day, the police found Taiwo motionless on the living room floor. Despite efforts to revive her, paramedics declared her dead at the scene. Subsequently, David Abodunde was arrested on suspicion of her murder.
The couple, married in 2016, had relocated to the UK in 2022, and her husband joined her earlier this year. According to Taiwo’s brother, Alex Owoeye, investigations by the Suffolk Police led to the conclusion that David was the sole perpetrator of the crime.
In a Facebook post, Alex Owoeye announced his sister’s painful exit and expressed that justice would be served. He revealed that the couple’s three children were under the care of UK social services.
Another relative, Opeyemi Owoeye, also took to Facebook to assert that Taiwo was killed by her own husband, calling for justice.
Reacting to the news, a Facebook user, Olabanji Fabiyi, described the incident as heart-wrenching. He cited an audio clip of the events leading up to Taiwo’s death, suggesting a brutal and unprovoked act.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock, prompting calls for justice and an examination of the circumstances surrounding the former nurse’s untimely demise.
