Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) disclosed on Wednesday that troops under HAKORIN DAMISA IV had uncovered a gun manufacturing facility concealed within a building in Pakachi Village, Mangu local government area of Plateau State.
According to the operation, one suspect was apprehended at the site, and a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition was seized during the operation.
The discovery of the clandestine gun factory coincides with ongoing efforts by security agencies to restore law and order in the Mangu general area, which has witnessed communal unrest leading to loss of lives and property in recent times.
In a statement issued by Captain Oya James, spokesperson for the operation, the gun factory was found during a clearance operation conducted by troops in rugged mountainous terrain.
“Troops of the operation stumbled upon an isolated structure, which upon investigation, turned out to be a weapons fabrication factory situated on elevated ground within the village,” Captain James explained.
He further stated, “The operation led to the arrest of Mr. Tapshak Plangji, a 25-year-old male suspected to be involved in the illegal activities at the factory. The alleged proprietor, Mr. Nuhu Meshack, is currently evading arrest, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.”
The recovered items from the facility include a significant arsenal comprising 5 AK-47 rifles, various magazines, ammunition, dane guns, pistols, gun barrels, and a variety of manufacturing equipment and tools used in the production of firearms.
Captain James highlighted the significance of the operation, emphasizing the commitment of the troops and collaboration with other security agencies in combating illegal arms proliferation and criminal activities within communities.
The successful operation underscores the importance of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle illicit weapon manufacturing networks and enhance security across the region, ultimately fostering peace and stability in Plateau State.
