UAE prosecutors have issued an order for the arrest of an individual who filmed an offensive video inside a luxury car showroom in the country. The video, which insults and ridicules Emirati society, has been deemed to incite harmful public opinion of citizens.
The Asian man in Emirati attire featured in the video was seen attempting to purchase a car worth $545,000, accompanied by individuals carrying large amounts of money. The Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes has detained the individual, who is a resident of Asian nationality, pending investigations on charges of internet abuse and publishing content that violates media content standards and insults Emirati society.
The UAE Attorney General’s Office, through its Federal Bureau of Investigation, monitored the video on social media, wherein the defendant arrogantly interacted with the showroom owner while wearing Emirati dress and being followed by individuals carrying what appeared to be large sums of money. The video depicted the man distributing financial packages to showroom employees in a manner that displayed imprudence and a lack of appreciation for the value of money.
The video has been deemed offensive, promoting an incorrect and derogatory perception of Emirati citizens, and inciting public opinion that is detrimental to the public interest. The Public Prosecution has also summoned the owner of the car showroom where the video was filmed.
Furthermore, the Public Prosecution has urged social media users in the UAE to adhere to legal and ethical regulations regarding the content they publish. They emphasize the importance of considering the societal characteristics and embedded values of Emirati society, which call for moral commitment in all aspects of behavior to avoid facing legal consequences.
