Barely two weeks after the unsettling incident where four children were mysteriously taken by a tricycle driver in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, another shocking case of child abduction has emerged. This time, a female tenant who recently moved into an apartment is alleged to have kidnapped four children belonging to three different parents.
The children, identified as Chioma (6), Ogbonne (6), Miracle (5), and Joy (3), were reportedly abducted by two unidentified tenants who had recently moved into a compound at Uwalaka Street by Ossah Road in Umuahia. The perpetrators disguised themselves as genuine tenants, renting a room in the building where the families resided.
According to reports, the alleged abductors immediately ingratiated themselves with the families, showering the children with food and gifts and spending time playing with them, all while secretly plotting their nefarious intentions.
One distressed mother, Mrs. Ngozi Kingsley, took her plea for help to Flo 94.9 FM station in Umuahia, recounting the heartbreaking disappearance of her daughter, Chioma. Mrs. Kingsley explained, “I went to the market as usual and left my children with my sister. We had no water in the compound due to a lack of power supply, so my sister went to fetch water and took my son with her. When she returned, she discovered that my daughter Chioma, her two daughters, Ogbonne and Joy, as well as my neighbor’s child, Miracle, were missing, and the new tenants were nowhere to be found.”
Another distraught mother, Mrs. Ifeanyi Uduma Ibe, revealed that the alleged abductors had been cooking and serving her children food and giving them gifts since the day they moved into the compound. The suspects reportedly developed an overly friendly rapport with the children, all the while keeping their sinister plans hidden from the parents.
Mrs. Ibe, whose daughter Joy can be identified by a birthmark on her knee, stated that the case has been reported to the police, adding to the growing concern and urgency surrounding child abduction in the area. The Umuahia community remains on edge as authorities work to investigate and resolve these distressing incidents.
