In a tragic incident, a first-class graduate of the University of Ibadan, Opuofoni Freeborn Ebimotimi, was killed in the early hours of today at Honeyhill Tombia, Bayelsa State, allegedly for stealing bread.
Ebimotimi, hailing from the Korokorosei community in Southern Ijaw Local Government area, had studied Business Administration (B.Sc) at UI. He was reportedly beaten to death by angry youths after being caught stealing a loaf of bread this morning.
Witnesses, including neighbors and friends, rushed to the scene upon seeing the incident and pleaded with the enraged youths to let Ebimotimi go, offering to pay for the bread in double. However, their pleas were rejected, and he was tragically killed.
Expressing her grief, Opuofoni Freeborn Idisemi, the younger sister of the deceased, lamented the unfairness of life since their father’s passing. She stated that she was unaware of the circumstances that led him to resort to stealing bread, emphasizing that they were accustomed to the hardships of life.
Idisemi also pointed out the disappointment of having uncles who hold influential positions in government and other places but were unable to provide assistance to their family during their time of need.
