President Bola Tinubu once again emphasized the importance of Nigerian governors working for the benefit of the people. He made this statement during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), led by Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, at the State House in Abuja.
According to reports, the governors expressed their support for the president’s decision to remove subsidies, praised his inclusive leadership, and commended his statesmanship. They also congratulated Tinubu for his efforts in addressing the fuel subsidy issue and pledged to collaborate with him to mitigate any short-term impact of the decision.
The president advised the political leaders to set aside their differences and focus on collectively alleviating the suffering and hardships faced by the people. He highlighted the visible effects of poverty on the faces of Nigerians, emphasizing that poverty is not an inherited condition but a result of societal factors.
“Our goal is to eradicate poverty and transcend partisan politics. We are here to discuss Nigeria and nation-building,” Tinubu stated. He emphasized the need for the country to be viewed as one large family, occupying different rooms within a single house. He believed that by adopting this perspective and moving forward together, they could lift people out of poverty, stressing that a determined mindset is crucial for achieving results.
The president reiterated the importance of political leaders putting aside their differences and working collectively to alleviate the suffering of the people. He highlighted the diversity present in the room, both in terms of culture and politics, and emphasized that unity and stability rest on their shoulders. Tinubu emphasized their responsibility to work for the people and safeguard the future of democracy.
Assuring the governors of his open-door policy, Tinubu expressed his willingness to share ideas, strengthen institutions, and establish frameworks that would improve the lives of Nigerians. He emphasized the need for synergy in tackling issues such as corruption and smuggling, and discussed the importance of galvanizing the economy and efficiently allocating resources.
