Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the deceased singer IleriOluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, provided a testimony during a Coroner Inquest in Ikorodu. She revealed that her husband had faced past incidents of bullying, psychological trauma, and an arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) prior to his death.
According to her testimony, Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in the afternoon. He had showered but wasn’t feeling well, and he requested the air conditioner in his room to be turned on. When the AC didn’t work, they rushed him to their son’s room. Omowunmi explained that she was in the kitchen at the time and later saw a nurse injecting Mohbad. After the injection, he requested the nurse to remove the syringe, and that’s when they rushed him to the hospital.
Mohbad’s condition deteriorated, and his hands became cold while he was in the back seat of the car en route to the hospital. Despite their efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.
Omowunmi also mentioned a recent argument between Mohbad and his younger brother during a car ride, which escalated into a physical fight. This dispute took place after a performance, and Mohbad complained of feeling tired.
She added that the singer had been dealing with psychological trauma following an encounter with NDLEA in February 2022 when he was hit in the head with a gun. This incident caused him to become fearful and paranoid. He refused to go to the hospital for medical treatment, and his mental health deteriorated. He faced memory loss and was unable to remember his phone password.
Omowunmi stated that after her husband’s death, she was unaware of the location of his burial or even the mortuary. She revealed that they had plans to send their son to Canada and had obtained a visa for this purpose.
She also expressed concerns about threats she had been receiving and said she had been wearing a face mask to conceal her identity due to these threats. Mohbad had wished for their child to be born in Canada and had wanted to fly their son to Canada, but they were not financially able to do so.
