In a stern declaration, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a firm stance against politicians impeding the progress of ongoing government projects, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding public interests rather than catering to the selfish motives of individuals within the political sphere.
Expressing his discontent, Wike specifically highlighted an incident involving a member of the House of Representatives who, driven by personal gains, obstructed a vital project in the Guzape District of the FCT.
During his inspection of several ongoing road projects, including Guzape Lot 2 handled by Gilmour Construction, and Roads B6 and D12 along Constitution Avenue managed by Julius Berger Construction, Wike revealed that the lawmaker had ordered an abrupt halt to the project without adhering to due process.
“This is not a private project; it is a public project, handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” Wike emphasized, underscoring the public nature of the initiatives. He criticized the use of law enforcement to halt a legitimate project approved by the Federal Executive Council, stressing that complaints should be directed to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to such disruptive measures.
“We are not going to take it lightly,” Wike asserted. In response to the unwarranted obstruction, the Minister directed the contractors involved to disregard the stoppage and resume their work promptly. He emphasized the importance of completing the projects on schedule, anticipating their commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari in May.
Wike’s strong stance signals a commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted progress of public projects and discouraging politicians from hindering essential developments for personal gain.
