Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that the Presidency stopped his principal from holding his regular monthly media briefings.
Reports had circulated earlier that the Presidency allegedly barred Wike from hosting the briefings, citing concerns about his controversial remarks, alleged harassment of political opponents, and inflammatory comments that could destabilize Rivers State.
According to those reports, Wike’s continued verbal attacks on Rivers elders who tried to mediate between him and Governor Sim Fubara had raised fears that tensions in the state might escalate once again.
However, when contacted for clarification, Olayinka dismissed the report outright, describing it as “fake.”
The aide maintained that there was no directive from the Presidency stopping Wike from engaging with the media and that the minister remains focused on his duties as FCT Minister.
