Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has emphasized the significance of infrastructure development over short-term palliatives, stating that the construction of roads and critical infrastructure by the President Bola Tinubu administration will better serve the people. Bello made this assertion during an inspection of ongoing works on the Abuja-Lokoja road, accompanied by the Minister of Works, Mr. Dave Umahi.
Bello expressed his belief that the enhancement of road networks across the country holds the potential to alleviate poverty and create lasting socio-economic impact, surpassing the immediate benefits of palliative measures. He highlighted the crucial role that the Abuja-Lokoja road plays in connecting the southwest, south-south, and southeast regions to the Federal Capital Territory and northern parts of Nigeria.
Commending President Tinubu for appointing Dave Umahi as Minister of Works, Bello described Umahi as a practical and action-oriented individual who is well-equipped to execute the “Renewed Hope” project. Bello’s praise for Umahi stemmed from his reputation as someone focused on tangible results rather than media attention.
Bello urged civil servants to demonstrate dedication and sincerity in their work, emphasizing that their commitment will contribute to the successful delivery of quality infrastructure by the former governor and now Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
Meanwhile, Minister Dave Umahi assured the public of his commitment to implementing infrastructure development projects, particularly focusing on the construction of concrete roads. He emphasized that concrete roads are not only more durable but also require minimal maintenance over a span of 50 years. He encouraged contractors to provide quotations for concrete road projects, demonstrating the government’s intent to prioritize long-lasting and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
