The Kogi State government led by Governor Yahaya Bello has filed a lawsuit against Dangote Industries Limited, DIL, the parent firm of Dangote Cement Plc, over ownership of its cement plant in Obajana, a town in the Oworo district of the Lokoja Local Government Area.
The complaint which was filed at the Kogi State High Court, Lokoja Judicial Division, has an originating summons marked HcL/8T/2022.
In the lawsuit dated October 18, 2022, the state government demands that the court should investigate the agreements reached between DIL and the Kogi state government on July 30, 2002, and February 14, 2003, respectively, in order to uncover the fact that due consideration was lacking in the contract.
The government is also asking the court to dissolve the agreement if the aforementioned claim is proven to be true, citing a lack of proper consideration, which is a requirement for a valid contract.
