In a highly anticipated development within the Nigerian entertainment space, May Edochie, the estranged first wife of famous Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has taken legal action against her husband and his second wife, Judy Austin. The brand and lifestyle influencer has filed a lawsuit demanding N100 million in damages, accusing Judy of committing adultery with her husband.
The news of May’s lawsuit was brought to light by the Divorce blog, which has since gone viral on Facebook. DPA Family Law Clinic revealed the details of the lawsuit and shed light on why it took May so long to file for divorce.
According to the blog post, May and Yul were married under the 1970 Marriage Act, which explicitly states that neither a man nor a woman can have more than one spouse at a time. May believes that Yul’s marriage to Judy is null and void as he is legally bound by the 1970 Marriage Act and is not permitted to have multiple wives simultaneously, unlike the customary marriage act.
The post also disclosed that Yul recently attempted to enter the former matrimonial home he shared with May but was denied access. Furthermore, it was revealed that May is being represented in court by Femi Falana’s law firm and Eculaw.
In her lawsuit, May expressed concern over her husband’s behavior, stating that he appears to be under some form of influence and has been displaying aggressive, erratic, and irrational behavior while making threatening gestures. Apart from the divorce proceedings, May has filed a separate charge against Judy for committing adultery with Yul and is seeking N100 million in damages for the alleged misconduct.
This legal development has captured the attention of many in the entertainment industry and the public at large, and the outcome of the case remains eagerly awaited.
