May Edochie, the first wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has reportedly begun divorce proceedings against him. It is said that May and her legal representative visited a court on July 10 to file a petition for the dissolution of their 18-year marriage. However, Yul has allegedly been evading being served the necessary documents.
The main cause of conflict between the couple revolves around Yul’s decision to marry actress Judy Austin as his second wife. In April 2022, Yul publicly announced the birth of his son with Judy and their subsequent marriage. May has consistently expressed her disapproval of Yul’s union with Judy, stating that their marriage was once stable and loving before these unexpected events occurred.
May firmly believes that polygamy is a personal choice, and while she acknowledges that certain religions and traditions permit it, she refuses to be coerced into accepting a practice that contradicts her own faith and family values.
It is worth noting that Yul has faced significant backlash on social media recently for what some perceive as a hasty rebound following the sudden loss of his first son with May, Kambilichukwu, who passed away in March. Critics argue that the frequent sharing of videos featuring Yul and Judy spending time together suggests that he has moved on too quickly and has not adequately mourned the loss of his son to justify posting such “happy videos” online.
